City Year’s annual gala is a celebration of our students, AmeriCorps members, and community members who challenge cynicism and inspire others into action.

Honoring Kansas City’s Idealists of the Year

We define idealism as the belief that you have the passion, skills, and courage to change the world. Idealism isn’t just a positive mindset, it’s a culture grounded in actionable values.

This event will honor individuals who, like our City Year AmeriCorps members, embody the spirit of idealism. Idealist of the Year Awards are given to individuals who are making a difference in the life of one person, an organization, or an entire community. All sponsors at the Silver Level and above can honor an Idealist from their organization who will be publicly recognized at the event.

Social Symphony of Kansas City

We are excited to partner with the talented Social Symphony of Kansas City for this year’s Idealist Gala, featuring a live hip-hop symphony performance. The Social Symphony of Kansas City is a local non-profit whose mission is to foster a community-driven orchestra that welcomes all musicians, regardless of their age or skill level. They aim to provide a space for musicians to reconnect with music and their community, offering a platform for those who have never pursued music professionally. The group emphasizes the social aspect of music, creating a welcoming environment for new friendships and relationships.
